结合制度理论和高层梯队理论,并借鉴关于不平等、外貌效应与企业慈善的研究,我们认为,容貌较好的女性高管可能会担忧因为性别歧视她们的外貌会影响他人对其专业能力的认可。为了对冲这种偏见的影响,她们会积极参与企业慈善,以展现对他人的关怀——这些特质符合大众对领导力的认知。实证研究结果显示,在控制上市公司的业绩,公司治理和高管的个人特征后,颜值高的女CEO更倾向于积极参与企业慈善,尤其是在刻板印象较强、市场化程度较低的地区。
Integrating institutional theory and the Upper Echelons theory with research on gender inequality, beauty effects, and corporate philanthropy, we argue that attractive female CEOs may fear their attractiveness undermines their perceived competence. To counteract such biases, they engage in corporate philanthropy to demonstrate compassion and care—qualities aligned with broader expectations of effective leadership. Our findings reveal that attractive female CEOs engage more actively in corporate philanthropy, donating larger amounts than their less attractive peers, particularly in regions with stronger gender stereotypes and less market-driven economies.
